DONDE ESTAS?
If a marriage is strong enough to last fifty years, there is most likely some kind of huge event planned to celebrate such an accomplishment. During the 1980’s Sid and Barbara Lipschitz had arrived to their 50th year of marriage as their kids flew them up from their retirement Florida community back home to New York where they had spent most of their married life. The celebration had been planned for months as Kyle, Lyle, and Annie wanted to celebrate in style with all their parents’ old friends and acquaintances. Before the party Sid and Barbara nag each other in their honeymoon suite as the couple is running late. They finally arrive to discover a beautiful New York ballroom filled with balloons and flowers. A Jewish wedding band entertains all night long as Sid and Barbara make their rounds to all the tables, thanking everyone for coming to their party. Each child gives a toast and tells funny stories about how their parents met and have explored the world together as one. Annie is the last one to speak and demands that her parents come on stage to receive a gift from all the kids. Annie presents her tired father and drunken mother two round trip tickets and an all-inclusive week-lone vacation to a place Barbara has always dreamed of visiting: Mexico.
Sid and Barbara depart to Mexico to enjoy a second honeymoon. When they arrive to their hotel they discover that it looks nothing like the brochures they were given. They head off into their room to find a young fat couple having loud aggressive sex. Sid and Barbara finally settle into their so-called suite and decide to cruise into the little, quaint, Mexican town for a romantic dinner. The town is packed with young kids, drinking and dancing in the streets. Many of the men flirt with Barbara as she adores all the attention. The couple finally locates a sea-side restaurant as Barbara orders with her broken Spanish she learned in high school years ago. As the meal continues, Sid demands to return to the hotel since he is tired and wants to go to bed. Barbara is disappointed but finally gives in to Sid’s request. Back at the hotel Sid is extremely sick and spends most of the night in the bathroom.
The adventure continues as the couple heads off to an overcrowded Mexican beach filled with local vendors and young kids playing in the water. Sid and Barbara finally find a spot to throw down all their belongings. The couple is immediately robbed as some merchants try to sell them some local crafts. Sid still recovering from his nightly battle with the toilet decides to take a nap. When he is woken up by a chanting religious woman, Barbara is nowhere to be found. ¿Donde esta Barbara?
Sid begins a desperate search for his lost wife. He tries to find her in the water. He visits the beach bar. Sid begins to panic and quickly packs up all the belongings. He hits the beach asking everyone if they have seen Barbara. The only picture he has of her is from the 50th anniversary invitation that was from their wedding 50 years earlier. Some local kids try to scare Sid by telling him of all the kidnapping of American tourists. Sid finally finds a local man that calms him down and points him down the beach where he last saw Barbara walking. Sid eventually finds Barbara under a shady palm tree indulging in an oily massage given by a hulky Mexican body builder. Sid is furious and demands that Barbara explain to him why she didn’t mention to him where she was going. Barbara explains that she didn’t want to disturb his nap and that she was just going for a little stroll down the beach and couldn’t resist a massage. Sid throws down all their stuff as Barbara enjoys the rest of her massage. What a day. Sid thought he lost his wife and Barbara gets to experience the firm, strong hands of a Mexican hunk.
Back at home, Sid and Barbara are entertaining around the community pool, having cocktails and playing cards with all their retired Jewish friends. Barbara arrives with a photo album and begins to tell the story of Sid and Barbara’s memorable second honeymoon adventure to Mexico.
